Gensou Skydrift Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

We've seen a ton of cool Touhou games in recent years and here's a kart racer where you fly around on the familiar cast of maidens.

Gensou Skydrift is such a completely weird anomaly of game that you know it couldn’t have been created anywhere else other than Japan. A racing title about kawaii anime witches riding on other kawaii anime witches as if they were flying surfboards, all while racing against each other in physics and gravity-defying levels just for the sake of it. Gensou Skydrift feels more like the fan game it actually is than I hoped. The references to Mario Kart: Double Dash are warranted, but it lacks the polish and finesse of that GameCube classic. Gensou Skydrift isn’t a terrible racing game, but its awkward controls and iffy drifting mechanic heavily reduce the fun that can be had from it. Hopefully the option to remap the controls will be delivered in an update, because that would definitely make it more of an interesting proposition.

It’s f...
