Gori: Cuddly Carnage

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is an amazing character action game that will make you eager for its sequel. It’s cute, creepy, and full of carnage, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I had no idea what I was in for with Gori: Cuddly Carnage, and I certainly didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Its crassness is kind of a take-it-or-leave-it for me, but it fits a ridiculous world taken over by crazed toys that are in desperate need of murder by a sentient cat friend and his blade hoverboard. And that feels like a good way to look at most of Gori. It sets out do all sorts of things gameplay-wise and it does all of them pretty well to make a ridiculously graphic world and narrative pretty dang fun. Mind the tykes in the room when you’re playing this one.

Featuring a cute cat protagonist with a foul-mouth sentient hoverboard sidekick, Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a good, old-fashioned, stage-based action game that's a blast from start to finish. Though be warned: with lots of gore and plenty of bad language, this certainly isn't a game for kids despite its bright and colourful visuals.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a fantastic real-time action romp with beautiful visuals, explosive combat, and it all runs quite well on the Steam Deck.

My biggest gripe is that Gori: Cuddly Carnage did crash on more than one occasion during my time with the game. One of these crashes came right after a lengthy boss fight, meaning I had to redo the fight from the beginning. Ideally, these crashes won’t happen after a patch near launch, but we’ll have to see as time goes on.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage was an indie game that meow-ed its way to the top despite its technical frustrations.
