Devil May Cry 5, while seemingly shallow on the surface, conceals its greatest features and true experience for only the dedicated to discover. The satisfaction of finally overcoming a block in the game that held you back for so long is where the real experience lies, and the game demands that you not be weak of heart to reach it. Put in the time and effort that the developers expect of their fans and you’ll truly be able to reap the rewards and see DMC5 for what it is; a truly off the wall, batshit insane romp through the best the genre has to offer.

Devil May Cry 5 rights all the wrongs of its predecessors with style and gusto, whilst being incredibly welcoming to series newcomers. The three playable characters bring great combat variety against the games huge slew of enemies and bosses. There are a few little niggles that stop the game from being the best it could be, but Devil May Cry 5 is undoubtedly one of the best in the series.
Devil May Cry 5 revels in its own gleeful stupidity, presenting a world in which the most valuable commodity is style.
Devil May Cry 5's few minor flaws are blasted away by one of the best combat systems this side of gaming. Each fight is a treat, each boss is a challenge, and I loved every second of it.
Devil May Cry 5 is a fun romp with a story that is unlikely to leave a lasting impression despite its best efforts to present compelling cutscenes. The cast of playable characters could perhaps be slimmed down to two, in order to focus-in on unique gameplay for each one. Regardless, the moment to moment gameplay is fun with fluid combat and plenty of spectacle. The Switch 2 port specifically is one of Capcom’s best efforts on the system. While not as graphically demanding as some of their more recent titles, this is still a gorgeous game that has been translated excellently to Switch 2.

Even after you beat the campaign, there are countless other modes to go through. On higher difficulty modes, enemies gain new moves and new enemies appear in certain locations. Devil May Cry 5 releases some 11 years after its 4th entry, a game that doesn’t necessarily feel that old, yet when compared to the visual fidelity of what Capcom has been able to do here with this latest sequel, and its impressive RE Engine, makes it look almost ancient by comparison.
