Professional reviews from gaming critics

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie brings some fascinating ideas to the table and manages to make the most of them despite a somewhat intimidating start. Fans of other Don't Nod games will be rewarded with yet another striking narrative experience, while everyone else will be treated to one of the more accessible and streamlined visual novel titles in recent memory.

Take control of Harmony, meet a pantheon of unique deities, and unravel a narrative of two opposing worlds clashing with one another with a unique future-seeing system that'll have you yearning for a second playthrough.

Despite having predetermined outcomes, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie does a great job at giving players a true sense of agency over the direction of the story. Even when things don’t go as expected, the events that unfold are no less intriguing. The game raises the bar for what can be achieved through player choice, and those looking for a compelling narrative-driven experience have plenty to enjoy...

First and foremost, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie tells a captivating story. It excels in all aspects of game analysis, from its core mechanics to its fictional & narrative involvement, artwork, and replayability. Don't Nod's latest adds a near-revolutionary twist to choice-based narrative games.

If you are an avid decision-based game enthusiast, you'll undoubtedly have some fun with its unique take on the classic genre. Rather than featuring the traditional good and evil outcomes, you'll be faced with multiple choices based on your distinct personality type, making the experience different for each player.

In Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, you play as Polly—or Harmony, as she’s known in the parallel world of Reverie, where human values take form as Aspirations. Her powers as Oracle allow you to peer into the near future as you make your decisions, and through her Augural, an actual game board viewable by the player, you can craft a path based on desired outcomes. But as her life collides with the Asp...

I know this sounds contrary to the rest of my review but, despite my complaints, I still would recommend at least one playthrough of this game to fans of the studio and the genre. There is some charm to be found here, even if it’s only occasional glimpses when you make the right decision, and just visually you’ll be in for a treat.

Summing things up, Whilst looking nice, the game is overly complex and pretty boring.  If you don’t care about the story, characters, mythology, or plot branches which are on display from the start of each act, this soon becomes a slog to play through.  If you are a fan of the genre, this would be worth checking out if it comes to Game Pass, but I cannot recommend buying it.  Coming from Don’t Nod...
