Is it just me or has Humble Bundle consistently been a great thing within the gaming world? Not only have they given gamers a great deal with their monthly bundles, but they have always strived to offer some spotlight to indies. Into The Pit is a good way to reintroduce a genre one could have assumed a relic of the past. It’s a tad slowly paced and can get repetitive as any roguelike might, but it’s a strong innovation on a tried and true genre.

Relentless. That’s the one word to describe Into the Pit. And you know what? If that’s the one goal of the game, Into the Pit is flawless. The speed, the music, the low-fi graphics, the entire experience is designed to come at you, at maximum velocity and full tension. It never lets up. It’s relentless. For better or worse though, the review process means slowing down and taking it all in, so let’s talk about Into the Pit.

Although it shows promise early on, Into the Pit runs out of new tricks astoundingly quickly, leading to endless repetition and a total lack of challenge.

Into the Pit is a retro FPS/roguelike that's far less than the sum of its parts. It's got great action, but everything that surrounds it is questionable.

Into The Pit has some genuine fun in it. It controls well, has a unique look, and has great potential with its rogue-lite offerings. In the end though for me, the lack of variety in multiple areas kept it from being something I could recommend except for the fact that it’s only $15 and is also on Game Pass. For free (if you’re already an existing member) it’s a no-brainer to give this one a try if anything you’ve seen about it has caught your eye. After all, the only cost will be a little bit of your time.
