Lock's Quest is a new original adventure game where players create a virtual world block-by-block to defend their homeland against invading enemies. With the use of the stylus you will be able to immerse yourself into the building and creating process.

Lock's Quest is by far one of the most original, inspired, and entertaining experiences we've had on DS this year. Everything from the unique build mode to the impressive audio/visual offering, the immersion found in cinematic intros and story-developing cut scenes throughout, and even the random tongue-in-cheek dialogue lines thrown in to remind players that this is a game, made by gamers, are very welcome. We're not going to go overboard and claim that Lock's Quest is some conquer-all, greatest game on DS (it isn't, though for a second DS title, 5th Cell has proved its place among the pock...

Lock's Quest's intuitive build mode and frantic, engaging battles are great for an action strategy game on the go.

The truly sad part is that Lock's Quest is just a few design tweaks away from being a fantastic game. All the ingredients are here, but the overzealous chefs at 5th Cell screwed up the recipe. Yields: about five hours of play before all but the most patient gamers will get bored. (Reviewer's note: I played for much longer than that, against my better judgment.) There's a cool story to be revealed if you can force yourself to keep going. Lock's Quest is certainly not a bad game, but it’s definitely disappointing in light of all its great assets and originality.

Budding developers 5th Cell bring an interesting blend of hack 'n slash RPG and tower defence to the DS.Tower defence is one of my favourite genres in gaming. And oddly enough my first (and to date [...]

While the game's real-time strategy bastardisation of tower defence is the focus, Lock's Quest also occasionally leans closer to its other, ARPG inspiration and dials up the story and combat. The former throws up a few surprises, but mostly it's standard fare - you save someone in peril, you go straight to the top of the class in a strange new world, everything is not as it seems, all the people you meet in villages have nothing interesting to say (and the cat says "Moo"), and there's a fair bit of angst. Applause for the animations, though, which make the most of limited screen-space with con...
