Lost in Harmony is a very ambitious title that mixes a surprisingly infectious soundtrack with frantic and fun rhythm-platformer gameplay. It’s one musical romp that’s great for rhythm game players of all sorts, and I can’t wait to see what DigixArt does next!
“M. I. R. A. I.’s Escape,” the other story in Lost in Harmony, has a very different tone and a much different story, but it’s fun to play as well. Overall, Lost in Harmony, while providing a couple hours’ entertainment, is a well-designed runner with great music. It is a definite hit with people who love this genre, though the integration of the rhythm isn’t stellar. I won’t be getting lost in the game for a second play-through, but I enjoyed my time with it.
It’s in the level designs that aren’t bound by a common thread that isn’t the two protagonists. It’s also in the issues that the game has with using music as a police baton instead of a conductor’s baton when it comes to keeping levels interesting. Sure, the Switch version includes a second, shorter campaign where a robot is the titular character which echoes many of the same philosophies without the narrative focus. With some more focus and better design, this could have been a relaxing and reflective trip about dealing with grief and loss. Instead, it just feels like an obstructive way of listening to an album.
