Despite the fact the Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) has some great titles, for one reason or another I have found it hard to find a good racing game. Fortunately Techland, developers of Call of Juarez and Dead Island, have stepped up to the challenge with “Mad Riders”. They have made several other racing games in the past, but I am afraid I have yet to play any of them. Regardless, Mad Riders comes along at a time I was craving for a good racer at an affordable price. Well after some extended playtime, Mad Riders was not only mad fun but for 800 points you cannot go wrong.
Racing ATVs on a dead island? Nail’d it.So you like racing games? That’s good. You like real-world race tracks? That’s bad.You like a blinding sense of [...]
Mad Riders is an adrenaline-fueled off-road arcade racing game, that lets you perform amazing aerial stunts and race on over 45 stunning tracks from all over the world, at breathtaking speeds.
For the rest of us, though, Mad Riders is a bit of a mess and lacks anything in the way of balance or polish. At times the game is pretty to look at but the detail flies by so fast, and the controls fight you the entire way, that not much attention will ever be paid towards the looks. The game has the right idea, but the wrong execution, and even at a discounted, downloadable price it's not worth the trouble.
Mad Riders borrows a little too liberally from other titles to truly have its own identity. What is there, however, is an enjoyable enough arcade racer. It won’t take players hugely long to complete but given that it’s priced reasonably low for a downloadable release (less than a price of a pizza as the trailer will gleefully tell you), it’s long enough to feel worth the asking fee.
