Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Utawarerumono series spin-off, Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten, arrives on consoles in the west. This turn-based RPG is enjoyable and doesn't do anything wrong, but also doesn't make itself particularly memorable.
Return to the world of Utawarerumono and explore the story of Oshtor, as he explores the mystery behind the disappearance of his father and the enigmatic land of Arva Shulan. PC copy reviewed.
Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten is a turn-based JRPG, set in the world of Utawarerumono. The Utawarerumono games are normally a blend of strategy JRPG and visual novel gameplay. I’ve heard of Utawarerumono, but haven’t beaten any of the games. The narrative of Monochrome Mobius definitely stands on its own, but I can’t say how many connections it has to other games in the franchise. Considering Monochrome Mobius is the first game of its style in the series, it’s surprising that the developers nailed the combat, but not much else.
Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs is full of interesting nuggets of narrative revelations for fans of the long-running Utawarerumono visual novel series, but its pacing problems and lacking quality make it much less suitable for newcomers than it should be.
Monochrome Mobius is a solid first attempt at a JRPG from Aquaplus, but falters due to a number of plot, pacing and user interface concerns.
