NBA Live 15 Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

NBA Live 15 won’t bring back that lovin’ feelin’ anytime soon, but it has some enjoyable moments and the good news is visuals are a marked upgrade over last year’s game. It is really the first thing you notice when you fire up the game. The players look great as the level of detail has been kicked up a notch or two. All the colours from the fans, the court, and arena LED screens truly pop from the screen. On the surface it looks like a more vibrant and brighter game this year. Adjustments and tweaks make for an improved basketball title, but one still desperate to play catch-up with 2K.

After last year's dreadful reboot of NBA Live, EA Sports acknowledged its shortcomings while reaffirming its dedication to simulation basketball. That patience will be tested for at least another year, because though NBA Live 15 makes some crucial strides on the hardcourt, the series still has a sizable deficit to overcome in the competition against its rival.

Although NBA Live 15 looks significantly better than NBA Live 14 at a glance, it still suffers from clumsy controls and stiff animations. A few nice changes and additional game modes can’t make up for poor gameplay, but there are some great ideas here that just don’t get a chance to shine, like the pick & roll and the ESPN license. All in all, NBA Live doesn’t feel as hopeless as it did a year ago, but hope doesn’t make a good basketball game. Practice those fundamentals!

Perhaps this is a good time for EA to focus on something else in the basketball world, something that would work more in its favor. NBA Street always clicked when it was around, and even NBA Jam would be welcome in this new generation of consoles. Anything would be better than a basketball game that can't quite nail down what the feeling of basketball should be all about.
