In review, Necrosphere Deluxe is a short and hard-as-nails platformer that’ll have you shouting in frustration, but defeating it is very rewarding. The backtracking through previously completed puzzles is frustrating, but hey, at least it gives you more bang for your buck?
At $7.99 at the time of writing on the Nintendo Store for around two hours of gameplay, it’s not too bad of a deal. If you’re in to purposefully difficult and frustrating games, Necrosphere may be worth a look. However, its faults hinder it from being held up with the likes of Super Meat Boy or Celeste.
The indie scene is where creativity really thrives in the gaming world nowadays, but there are two small niches that show up quite often in this evergrowing market: twitch platformers and metroidvanias.
Necrosphere Deluxe is a game that I want to like a lot more, and it starts off promising, but the innovative controls aren’t worth the hassle that they bring. It would be test enough if you could run, dash, and rocket boost up using separate button inputs, but I found myself fighting the control scheme more than the actual obstacles in the game. Terry’s Dream is a nice bit of ultra-challenging side content, but it’s only for the bravest of players as your progress isn’t saved like it is in the base game.
