Resolutiion Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Sometimes a game comes along that does things so differently, it’s a bit hard to compare to anything else. Take this new game, Resolutiion from Monolith of Minds, for instance. It has similarities to other games, like the same top down 2D view as games like Undertale and the same combat style as a game like the original Zelda. It even has an upgrade system more similar to something like Metroid or Gato Roboto. Yet, it still does things differently. Allow me to explain.
This title isn’t for the new gamer. It’s for someone with experience and knowledge; someone who is willing to put in work to reach the conclusion. If you’re looking for an easy game where you can simply hack and slash your way to victory, Resolutiion isn’t for you. But if you’re up for a challenging adventure to call your own, this could be it. Resolutiion is an action game that asks you to ponder big questions, but stops short of wrestling with them itself.

A surprising amount of game development is “polish”. The core mechanics and art is a lot of work, have no doubt. But it’s fixing the UI, making the animations smooth, figuring out how to teach the basics, fixing bugs and the like that takes a lot of time and energy. It’s an exercise in sanding down even the slimmest of edges. In the grand scheme of things, it may feel like time wasted. After all, user experience, like much of design, is invisible when it’s good. People will only rea...
