A great group of foes await me. Orcs, zombies vomiting bile, and knights block a clear path to my goal. Do I mow through them with my cardboard sword? Smash them to smithereens with my club? Or do I risk it all for the pleasure of swiping at them with a baguette? These are just some of the fun choices I got to experience in adventure/action RPG, Skellboy.
With an imaginative world and equally imaginative premise, Skellboy is an admirable attempt to provide an alternative to your average Zelda title. If you can get past the sluggish gameplay and cringe-worthy technical performance, there’s plenty here to get to grips with, and you’re guaranteed at least a few laughs thanks to the hilarious writing and dialogue.
Fabraz and UmaikiGames' Skellboy is now available on Nintendo Switch. The game offers an enjoyable experience with a neat blending of 2D and 3D, even if the gameplay doesn't venture far from the adventure RPG template.
A standard hack-and-slash adventure, Skellboy offers a fun twist on the usual inventory format. Beyond that, though, performance issues and a general lack of polish leave the game feeling underdeveloped
Skellboy is a lovely looking game with an addictive soundtrack and lighthearted story. However, its main gameplay loop is unremarkable, and there isn’t much to differentiate itself from the competition.
Skellboy is an action-RPG that succeeds at first blush, but it fails to pull you in for the long run.
