Starpoint Gemini 2 Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a beast of a game. It gracefully balances exploration, action, narrative, and RPG elements to create a complete package that thrills and excites... most of the time. Be aware that the nature of the missions are repetititive and ultimately a means to an end: to become the most powerful captain in the galaxy.

On the whole, Starpoint Gemini 2 is a great game for players seeking a nice cerebral experience that they can take at their own pace. Travelling between planets and space stations, conducting your business wherever you see fit, is a nice and relaxing affair due to the pretty scenery and breezy pace, and it is married nicely with frequent bouts of action that never let the experience get stale. It’s obviously made on a tight budget, with its shoddy presentation and inconsistent voice acting, but it remains an enjoyable and absorbing space romp nonetheless.  Those that are looking for a deep san...

Get beyond the complicated controls and mechanics, and Starpoint Gemini 2 turns out to be a mostly enjoyable voyage across the far reaches of space. The price tag is a little steep given the dated style and presentation of the game, but there's no shortage of content if you're in the market for a steadily-paced and involving space sim.

Maybe Starpoint Gemini 2’s universe doesn’t always feel as alive as it could, but it’s still an enjoyable place to spend your time. I love the freedom, the lack of restriction on what you can or can’t do. The touchstone influences here are clearly games like Freelancer and Privateer, and SG2 gives you that same sense that the galaxy is your playground. The campaign isn’t up to much, the interactions between various factions are simplistic and missions occasionally feel repetitive, b...

"Han Solo" is the best possible job description, and it's something I think we all aspire to. Being a cocky space smuggler is way better than pushing trolleys around a car park on a wet Sunday afternoon, although I suppose everybody has to have a hobby. I specifically mention that scenario because Starpoint Gemini 2 feels a lot like that particular task, only without the glamour. It's not very accessible, it's not exactly what you'd call fun, but as a space strategy RPG simulator there's nothing better on Xbox One.
