Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars

I don’t think we need the Suikoden series to “continue” any more than we need someone to go out and write a Water Margin 2. I have no idea if Konami is using this release to gauge interest in a proper “reboot” or new sequel, and being honest, I don’t think we need that. Frankly, I’m not even sure we need the rest of the series to be re-released from here (though I also wouldn’t say no to that). We should just appreciate that Suikoden and Suikoden 2 are remarkable achievements, both as literary adaptations and entertaining video games to play, and that quality and worth has not…

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is a treat for all turn-based RPG fans, but backgrounds can look a little too smooth and clean.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster gives players the chance to experience (or re-experience) a piece of gaming history long thought lost, warts and all. If you can survive the design decisions of three decades in the past, you'll come to understand why these titles are so beloved.

Bundling up two classic JRPGs and enhancing them in numerous ways including tidying up their visuals and making meaningful quality-of-life improvements, Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is a genuine treat for fans and newcomers alike.

Suikoden II is one of the best JRPGs of the late 90s.

Konami has graced gamers with remasters of the first two Suikoden games. While these two gems are classic in their own rights, did Konami put enough effort in to warrant this collection?

It’s incredibly good to have the Suikoden franchise back in orbit with the recently released Suikoden I&II HD Remaster. This is not only because it’s the first thing Konami has done with the series in over a decade. Playing this compilation of two classic RPGs for review, I initially wondered why the themes and vibes of the games felt timeless and needed today. Before long, it struck me why it’s such a timely release.

Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars brings the two beloved classics to modern platforms with smart and sensible updates that only reinforce all the reasons the series was so beloved in the first place.

Konami's remasters make Suikoden I & II easy to own and play. That's all they needed to do.
