I love a good co-op game and as my gaming chum and I progressed through Survival Kids, it quickly became one of our favourites. Let's go!
I’m willing to bet that absolutely no one expected a sequel to the 1999 Game Boy Colour game, Survival Kids to be a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title, but here we are. Survival Kids is a semi-time trial puzzle game that pushes you to get your base from one end of a course to the other and escape, all while solving puzzles along the way to be able to progress. It’s like Portal, just without the access to a portal gun… or a really good friend in Companion Cube. Luckily, I was able to refresh...
As a kid, when you come across an ancient, tattered map in the attic, what’s the first thing you do? If you answered ‘Go to sea, wreck yourself and then wash up on a desert island on the back of a giant turtle’, then we have a winner!
Survival Kids is a fun if somewhat simple co-op game that you can only play on the Switch 2, and is well worth a go especially for younger gamers.
Survival Kids is a thoroughly competent, cosy game of cooperative gathering and crafting. It’s not much of a looker, and its ideas aren’t mind-blowing, but it’s all good stuff thanks to its robust controls and easy-to-grasp loop. I’m not sure I’d want to be stuck with it on a desert island, but it’s good company for several happy hours with a friend – especially a less experienced gamer. If you plan to get shipwrecked with a little one and giggle your way through it, go ahead and add a point to the score.
A smooth and simple survival-lite experience, Survival Kids does what it sets out to do well whether you're playing alone or with others. It's just a shame that what it sets out to do isn't always as ambitious as it could be.
Survival Kids is a beginner-friendly co-op survival game that lacks the personality needed to leave a lasting impression. Still, with ample platforming puzzles and seamless GameChat integration, it does provide a playful backdrop for catching up with friends.
Ever since Konami started being in the business of making (and publishing) games again for the first time in years, following both the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 and last year’s Silent Hill 2 Remake with Bloober Team, all eyes have been on them. Are they back in action? What’s next on their agenda? It turns out that it was releasing a launch game for the Nintendo Switch 2 in Survival Kids, a return to the survival series that started back on the Game Boy Colour, went on...
Survival Kids is a sometimes satisfying but overall lacking survival game that struggles a bit with its concept. It can be fun to traverse islands and solve puzzles for a bit, but the repetitive nature of the game and some odd design choices keep it from being a standout Nintendo Switch 2 launch title.
Stranded on a series of unique islands, set upon the back of giant Whurtles, work together with up to 4 players online or 2 players in local co-op to explore, chop, craft, fish, cook and solve your way to safety - all whilst surviving everything the islands throw at you! Master the island's challenges, use the Harmony Stones to tame the storm and make it back home with an epic story to tell! Switch 2 version reviewed. Review copy provided by company for testing purposes.
A dull and frustrating co-op puzzle game, that has little chance of entertaining a younger audience and is too simplistic and repetitive for adult gamers.
