Tamagotchi Plaza Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Alright, let’s talk about Tamagotchi Plaza, the latest game that’s trying to revive one of the most iconic parts of 90s kids’ childhood. Tamagotchi are those little virtual pets that kids used to try and keep alive, and put on their keychains (like Digimon, but cuter). I never had this experience, so I might not feel as attached to these Tamagotchis like others would. In Tamagotchi Plaza, they take a different approach to taking care of these little virtual creatures.
Tamagotchi Plaza is an engaging game featuring a variety of mini-games that will especially appeal to cozy gamers and fans of the franchise. However, it needed significantly more content to win new fans and keep them engaged for much longer than a couple of rounds.
The latest and completely new title in the Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop series is coming to Nintendo Switch! Tamagotchi Plaza is set in Tamahiko Town on Tamagotchi Planet. Treat cavities at the Dentist. Make the perfect pair of glasses at the Eyewear Shop. Create table settings of sweets and drinks to fulfill customer orders at the Afternoon Tea Shop. Help serve Tamagotchi at 12 unique shops and grow your shops’ reputations, enticing new Tamagotchi to visit your shops! Switch 2 version reviewed. I’ve been a big fan of Tamagotchi since I was a kid. I even still have all of my original Tamagotchi’s lying around my house, even though these days most of them are in varying stages of deceased. These digital pets have been having a bit of a comeback with the releases of newer, smaller Tamagotchi models and the announcement of tie-in games like Tamagotchi Plaza.
Tamagotchi Plaza Switch 2 Edition has some silly charm, but the dull minigames and lack of tutorials end up making it a chore to play.
Tamagotchi Plaza is a charming game with characters that are cute enough to hold their own. However, the mini-games leave much to be desired due to repetition, and the time it takes to complete shop upgrades can leave you drained. Unfortunately, this is a disappointing title for the beloved Tamagotchi series.
It may be cute and colourful, but that's practically all that Tamagotchi Plaza has going for it. Essentially a collection of minigames, the activities on offer here are mostly dull and repetitive, and as there are no tutorials they are fairly inaccessible to younger players. One or two of the games are somewhat entertaining, but certainly not enough make this a title worth recommending.
Do you remember the constant scream of your Tamagotchi? The way it would demand constant attention, and would die if you had the audacity to leave it unattended for more than 5 minutes? Somehow, that horrible loop is more fun than Tamagotchi Plaza—a middling collection of minigames loosely based around the Tamagotchi franchise, which dares to ask: What if you could perform oral surgery on a Tamagotchi?
Tamagotchi Plaza is a painful slog, with embarrassingly basic minigames that fail to provide even a slither of entertainment. Grinding for hours in order to unlock upgrades for its miniscule hub world is incredibly unsatisfying and ultimately a huge waste of time.
