Tetris Ultimate largely lives up to its name; it’s a comprehensive collection of Tetris gameplay modes with various optional tweaks and tremendous online and local multiplayer. It must be said though that except the new Challenge modes, there’s nothing new here that any Tetris veteran hasn’t already played. The same old sky is falling.

While I'm not sure that I would call Ultimate Tetris the ultimate version of Tetris, it certainly is an adequate version of the classic. They nail the basic concept of the classic game but fail to really take it anywhere new. Plus, the online issues are just plain horrendous.

With a very cheap price tag, Tetris Ultimate is not a bad option for someone looking to play some classic Tetris, but the game certainly does not provide anything to truly shake up the typical formula.

Tetris Ultimate provides you with Tetris on your Xbox One. That'll be enough to sell it to most people and the game works very well. The attempts at innovation on top of the base game are welcome for sure, but the package as a whole tends to feel a little bit bare-bones, despite the plethora of gameplay customisation options. This means that if you're one of the minority that didn't really get grabbed by the bug, then this will do little to change your mind.
