The Last Case of John Morley Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
"The Last Case of John Morley" is a dark and, unfortunately, somewhat short detective adventure that doesn't impress with its difficulty or logic puzzles. Instead, it makes up for it with its suspense and atmospheric atmosphere.
Despite featuring some interesting plot twists, the overall experience fails to rise above mediocrity.
You’ve almost certainly heard of Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, and chances are you’ve also heard of Inspector Morse, Sam Spade and Nancy Drew. Or my personal favourite, Inspector Barnaby – Tom, not John – though I’m not going to get picky if it means that more murders are committed in Midsomer soon. I’m looking at you ITV.
The Last Case of John Morley offers a decent premise and moody environments, but is sunk by rough writing, clumsy presentation, and a baffling ending which turns a promising cold case into a lukewarm disappointment.
But the rises are matched by dips: a haunting world weighed down by too much pixel-hunting, buggy interactions, and narrative beats that occasionally forget their own logic. In the end, The Last Case of John Morley cuts deeper than expected—elegant in style, enticing in mood, but bleeding from wounds that haven’t been stitched up yet.
