The Walking Dead: A New Frontier

I'll admit that my interest in Telltale's well-worn adventure formula was starting to wane, but The Walking Dead: A New Frontier's opening episodes are proof positive that there's still plenty of life in it, as Ties That Bind Part 1 and 2 are both barnstorming episodes. Essential for any self-respecting The Walking Dead fan, regardless of whether you played seasons one and two in Telltale's series.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier's final episode rushes through its final moments at breakneck speed, forcing me to choose quick or be left behind. It succeeds in using this momentum to carry it through the best scenes in the season, even if a few get forgotten about in the process.

Many of the season’s problems remain in episode four - Thicker Than Water, but this installment does improve on many of its storytelling segments. There are still problems regarding relationships that you might not want, but the choices that you do get to make feel more important than they have in a while. While devoid of puzzles, the incredible ending has me eagerly waiting for the final episode.

A partially successful soft reboot, with some of Telltale’s best storytelling – even if many of your decisions still make precious little difference.
