The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Overall then, The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition is a great action-RPG with only a few issues that bring it down a peg or two. Whilst the large number of gameplay features it throws at you with little explanation is initially bewildering, with one or two missing the mark somewhat or being underplayed, they nonetheless allow for a deep and complex gaming experience that is quite unlike any other game in the genre. The game’s individuality is also bolstered by its premise of playing the villain for a change, although with him being mute except a few gestures and indecipherable squ...
The Witch And The Hundred Knight Revival Edition is a good action RPG with solid mechanics and an interesting story. If you like these types of games then you shouldn't hesitate to pick it up!
I have a real soft spot for The Witch and the Hundred Knight. I find that the complexity of its systems add a nice layer of strategy that most “Diablo clones” could benefit from. More than that, though, I find the narrative to be delightful in the way it revels in the Grimm Brothers’ sense of villainy, and then sticks you right in the middle of it and left to figure out for yourself if you’re comfortable helping a monster that completely evil.

By the pricking of our thumbs, something remastered this way comes. Yes, Nippon Ichi Software – the developer of the superb turn-based strategy role-playing Disgaea franchise – has decided to polish up its real-time battler The Witch and the Hundred Knight, adding Revival Edition to its already lengthy name on the PlayStation 4. When we reviewed the PlayStation 3 original, it didn't go down all that well, so the question is: has the Japanese studio managed to improved this genuine oddity, which comes on like a demented love child of Diablo and anime?
Adopting high-res, fully 3-D environments and characters, and a dark fantasy world brought to life by Takehito Harada, The Witch and the Hundred Knight delivers a new action RPG experience.
While an improvement over the original release, The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition still has its problems. The weak story and annoying characters are still front and center, though the Tower of Illusion is a nice new diversion from them. If you're a hardcore Nippon Ichi fan give it a shot, but pretty much everyone else can give it a pass.
