Winter Burrow is a cozy survival sim as you play as a mouse, desperate to survive the winter in your once occupied home; however, on this journey, you will assist and befriend a bunch of different critters that would normally be quite removed from each other and incompatible.
Winter Burrow is a pleasant experience with a sprinkling of challenge to manage, with good elements of survival, resource management, and cozy. The sum of its parts is adequate but I wish there was more for me to chew on with its mechanics, like more decoration options and varied quests.
I first came across Winter Burrow whilst watching the Xbox Showcase in June, and when the code came in to review it I jumped at the chance. If you’re looking for a cute animal-themed game in which to decorate, you could do worse, but expect a harsh survival experience.
Even though it initially caused me real panic, Winter Burrow is still a cozy game at its core. You can take your time — winter sprawls infinitely and lazily across the land. While never-ending winter is more often than not an apocalyptic symbol, here it is a blanket. Snuggle in, steep some tea, and stay a while.
