Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
I’ve been a massive Hellraiser fan for decades. Even though the franchise has taken a noticeable decline after the second film, there’s still been plenty to enjoy about the series and lore over the years. Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth is fun in a “shut your brain off and enjoy the creativity” sort of way. Hellraiser: Bloodline added some interesting ideas into the making of the Lament Configuration by the LeMarchand family, which added both a backstory and future story in one film. T...
Hellraiser has always been a niche horror series because the transgressive nature of it means that, almost by definition, it’s only going to appeal to a fringe sort. I happen to fall into that target audience, and Hellraiser: Revival does hit all the right notes for me. I am a very big fan of this game. But then I’m also a fan of Story of the Eye and Marquis de Sade’s philosophy (albeit less so his writing style), so the fact that I would rather play something like this than, say, a Resident Evil game, should come with a solid, pin-shaped disclaimer asterisk.
If you thought you'd seen everything twisted, morbid, and disgustingly bloody, you definitely haven't experienced Hellraiser for yourself yet.

Hellraiser: Revival’s overall commitment to its themes of addiction, love, and pain are all melded with the narrative...
Between disturbing fetishism and unrestrained body horror, the video game debut honors the saga's mythology admirably.
Modern censorship concerns don't compute with the Hellraiser franchise, but Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival defiantly sticks a blood-soaked middle finger
Hellraiser Revival offers a disturbing atmosphere that is faithful to the saga, but suffers from unoriginal mechanics and technical flaws.
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is a dark, unapologetically explicit survival horror game that faithfully captures the franchise’s BDSM aesthetic and grotesque body horror, elevated by impressive world design and Doug Bradley’s stellar voice performance as Pinhead. However, its immersive atmosphere is heavily dragged down by severe mechanical friction, including fragile weapon durability, checkpoint-free boss fights, and bugged save files that risk wiping hours of progress.
