Overall, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is a solid addition to the long-running MMO, though its not without its shortcomings. While the removal of one boss in particular and an only okay performance of one character are notable missteps for a remake, the game otherwise feels like a solid iteration of the original. For RE4 newcomers, it’s a fun game that turns up the action of the Resident Evil 2 remake and has a similar inventory to Resident Evil Village. To those that played the original in 2005 however, it’s a nostalgic love letter that you can tell was made with care, and respect to the original.
With two of the games campaigns now vaulted, and exotic quests from the previous expansion now gone, the game certainly does give some decent sized FOMO (fear of missing out) vibes. However, that won’t be an issue for people that have stuck with Destiny 2 all this time. If you’ve thought about jumping in, it’s definitely better to do it sooner rather than later, especially as the narrative continues with each new Season. The game is as good as its ever been (apart from that atrocious font) and I wouldn’t disagree with anyone who says this is the best version of this game. Personal thoughts surrounding the opera scene not withstanding, the Pixel Remaster version of Final Fantasy VI truly feels like it is the best way to experience this game.
Naoki Yoshida and his team should be commended for the incredible amount of world building and story telling that they’ve been able to pull off for, now, over ten years. Final Fantasy XIV continues to be a game that we would recommend everyone experiences. That is, as soon as the game stops being so popular that it’s able to resumes sales.
Ultimately, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a better version of Final Fantasy VII Remake. While some of the improvements may not seem noticeable, the ones that are, are great. Saves from the PS4 can be saved and imported into this new version using in-game options, so you can carry over your progress and trophies if you decide to jump back into the game.
Clocking in at around eight hours for my first playthrough, I never felt bored as I explored the village. There was always something new to discover and each new piece of the story had me yearning for more. After the story, The Mercenaries mode and completing challenges to unlock weapons and infinite ammo have more than kept me entertained as I work my way through my third playthrough.
At the end of the day, I’m ultimately enjoying my time with the game, it can be a lot of fun. However, when asked to present a final score, I simply cannot ignore the many issues that are holding the game back at launch. Hopefully the developers can get things sorted out and these issues that are currently hindering the game will soon be a thing of the past.
Ultimately, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is a game that, mechanically, shows its age, and even its newest features don’t feel quite as modernized as they probably should. By that rationale though, maybe the game will end up being exactly what you remember it as.
The idea of running back and forth across a large area may not be appealing to everyone. However, after setting aside the weirdly, and wonderfully confusing story and a few tense BT encounters, I found my time with Death Stranding to often be a more relaxing, chill, experience that I would recommend you check out.
