Dead Take

Dead Take

4/5

Dead Take is an experimental puzzle horror game that shines a haunting light on the entertainment industry. But that doesn’t mean it won’t still have you muting your sound just to avoid a jumpscare or increasing it to watch some stellar live-action performances.

Tales of the Shire is a confusing cozy game. It stars the Hobbits, who cook up a great meal and enjoy fishing. However, many of the other activities they get up to in the Shire are as dull as the last 30 minutes of Return of The King. Stardew Middle-earth, this is not.

If only all dates were like this. Forget about sitting in a bar, making excruciating small talk about the price of drinks, we’re going on a quest to find a bedazzled sword made out of a toothpick. With a fridge. Who runs an Ice Cream shop.

Assassin’s Creed has been fighting to find its identity for over a decade, and thanks to Shadows it’s finally rediscovered it. Sure, its combat can be clunky and some story beats felt oddly placed (particularly Yasuke’s backstory), but Shadows is exactly what Assassin’s Creed needed to prove it still has a beating heart.

Avowed doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel, but it does provide an unforgiving, yet enjoyable gameplay experience. The game certainly has its frustrating elements, like an enchanting table that’s only accessible via the camp or the need to trudge through dull conversations with your companions, but for many players, this will go down a treat rather than as a point of frustration.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl (Which we’ll be calling Stalker 2 for the sake of our fingers) has some big lead shoes to fill, given it’s been 15 years since its highly revered predecessor, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat released. Yet while the sequel brings back the grimdark designs fans loved, it does get snowed under by its shortcomings.
