It came as both a shock and a relief when Square Enix not only announced it was re-releasing Final Fantasy VIII, but the iconic title was being remastered as well. While it’s not the full-on reimagining that Final Fantasy VII will be getting, an HD upgrade is still a nice show of support for one of Final Fantasy’s most polarizing titles. After all, VIII was notably missing from the gaggle of Final Fantasy games announced for various platforms earlier in 2019.

We’re in a strange time of numerous video games inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The Sinking City is the latest such game, from developer Frogwares. If that name sounds familiar in any way, that’s because this is the developer behind the long-running Sherlock Holmes series of games. And therein lies the biggest selling point of The Sinking City: its focus on detective work. You’ll have to put on your best (figurative) deerstalker, as this is a game that will put your mind to work, for better or worse.

From the minds within Nippon Ichi Software (and brought to us by NIS America), Lapis x Labyrinth is a dungeon-crawling adventure where treasure is your one goal. Playing as a ragtag group of adventurers, you’re tasked with burrowing deeper in the titular labyrinth, which is said to house untold rewards. Easy, right?
