While never a massive franchise, Army of Two was always a solid shooter that had its fair share of die-hard fans. Everything about Devil’s Cartel seems like a giant misstep for the series in every conceivable way, and it’s hard to recommend this game to anyone... If you're a die-hard Army of Two fan then you may find something to like about this installment, but even that's a stretch.
Ultimately, BioShock Infinite feels like a shotgun blast to the face of ideas. So much is thrown at you that some things just fly by your peripheral vision, with very few of the themes ideas explored to their ultimate conclusion. The religious themes and issues of racism that are introduced early in the game are quickly neglected in favour of a science-fiction tale, which still provides one of the most incredible narratives in recent memory, but leaves you thinking that some of the most compelling parts of Columbia might have been left on the cutting room floor.
There's no doubt that Gears of War: Judgment is a great game and one that will probably be used as the standard to which other third-person cover-based games will be measured. It's as solid as ever and the top-notch pacing makes it an exhilarating campaign to play through.
Crysis 3 is a polished and accomplished FPS that warrants its place among the Xbox 360’s top shooters. While the game is unbalanced and only offers a significant challenge on the higher difficulty settings, the quality of the visuals, the diversity it offers, and the focus on tactics and strategy makes this an absolute joy to play and a refreshing experience when compared to other titles in this genre. Despite its notable shortcomings, Crysis 3 oozes production value, and the cut-scenes and cinematic set-pieces only serve to remind you that this game is amongst the best examples of the FPS genre.
