People Can Fly is exactly what Gears of War needed. The Bulletstorm developer brings a bold new energy to Epic Games’ excellent (but overly familiar) action series. It presents such refreshing and disruptive ideas to Gears of War: Judgment's campaign that it has an effect comparable to the original’s in 2006. During the introduction, the sights are almost impossibly beautiful. Halfway through, I r...
Gears of War 3 was still a great little game, but represented the kind of step down indicative of a series that’s running out of steam. Gears of War: Judgment puts paid to that impression, proving there’s plenty of vitality in Epic’s flagship yet; provided it’s willing to try some new spins on its established formula. OverRun alone is worthy of praise, but there’s just so much stuff going on in th...
There's no doubt that Gears of War: Judgment is a great game and one that will probably be used as the standard to which other third-person cover-based games will be measured. It's as solid as ever and the top-notch pacing makes it an exhilarating campaign to play through.

The Gears of War games revolutionised the third-person shooter with its cover mechanics, thrilling gunplay and multiplayer innovations. But Gears of War 3 marked the end of an era, providing a definitive conclusion to the much-loved series. Now Gears of War: Judgment is out to show that the series can survive the departure of its main character, Marcus Fenix.
Gears of War: judgment is a solid effort that, in some ways, changes the Gears formula for the better.
While maintaining the fun action and polish players expect and providing more solid co-op experiences, Gears of War: Judgment feels rushed, and immediately dated. It's a package missing too many elements replaced by gimmicks, and instead of taking the franchise forward, takes steps back in nearly every way. There's fun to be had in the more arcade-focused campaign, but its narrative offerings coup...
I don't know if I was supposed to feel an emotional connection to certain places when going through the campaign, but in my head it just seemed like a good excuse to use assets from previous games. The multiplayer really is what most people will look forward to. The class objective base gameplay systems will keep Gears of War: Judgment in your collection and off the used game stores shelves.
It’s funny how different people have different takes on different franchises. For me, Gears of War has been just as much about the world, the story and its characters, than it has been about the slick third-person shooter mechanics. Take Lee – Mr Bradley – on the other hand though, he effectively said to me just the other day, “Yeah, I just like Gears ‘cause I get to shoot shit.” Two different peo...
Gears of War Judgment doesn’t really reinvent the wheel in any way but it keeps the same solid gameplay whilst adding a few new gameplay tweaks. You’re going to be balancing up how tired of the formula you are vs How worthy the the new additions are when deciding to pick up this instalment. It’s still worth playing through for the campaign, new graphic touches and new multiplayer modes but I can’t...
