Asymmetric games are nearly always a cult favorite amongst a particular audience. The heady, confusing, and completely unbalanced days of Alien vs. Predator 2 and Timesplitters 2 infection mode inspired a generation of players. The modern lockdown beating efforts of Among Us and the countless multiplayer horror games vying for attention have carried the wavering torch into modern times. But none of them are Ghostbusters, are they?

Work sucks, I know. If it’s not physically demanding, it’s mentally exhausting. Even if you have the easiest, comfiest job position, I can say for certain you’re not being paid enough to do it. And with wage stagnation, an ever-expanding wealth divide, and an apathetic world, it’s only getting worse. Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a game that takes this to one of its most extreme endpoints and makes it so incredibly satisfying.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
8.5/10

Borderlands sells itself of crass humour and billions of similar but technically different weaponry. The model, originally established over a decade ago, has served Gearbox well through several games and spinoffs since. Tiny Tina, the miniature explosive expert, became an instant fan favorite when she was introduced in the second Borderlands installment. Her D&D-inspired DLC Assault on Dragon Keep was hailed as a standout amongst the various Borderlands 2 DLCs. Several years later, this Bunkers and Badasses in-joke has been expanded even further into its own fully-fledged spinoff with new characters, classes, abilities, and weapons. But while it offers some refreshing changes, there are also a few signs of a formula tiring at the edges.

Life is Strange: True Colors
9.5/10

Life is Strange is back, with new characters for you to fall in love with, new places to explore, and new powers to abuse. In Life is Strange: True Colors, you take on the role of Alex Chen, a young woman reuniting with her long-lost brother in the idyllic Haven Springs, Colorado. As with all the other games in the franchise, you’ll quickly find tragedy and darkness beneath the surface of this quiet slice of Americana, a shadowy adversary that affects and influences everything it – and you – touch.

Chivalry 2

Chivalry 2

8.9/10

Chivalry, in theory, is a code of conduct and honor that knights and other mythic figures of European history would follow. Its existence lead to the belief in noble knights that would protect the innocent, fight dragons, and generally do good. That was rarely the case, and Chivalry 2 has about as much honor as that metal-clad soldiers of the past did. And it is so much fun.

New Pokémon Snap
8.5/10

We’ve all got a friend that’s into birdwatching or some other strange form of natural voyeurism. They’ll have a little pocket-sized notebook filled with pictures and info on whatever chosen thing they’ve decided to obsess over and will pause every ten or so meters to take a picture of something you can never see. It's not the most exciting hobby in the world, but after playing the New Pokémon Snap, it's not hard to see the wonder in it.

It feels like once every WiiU game has been ported to the Switch, the WiiU itself will cease to be. Each WiiU will shake off the dust it has gathered for years under the tv and ascend into the sky, lost in a flash of glorious light. And maybe at that point, we can acknowledge that while the console itself had some issues, the games developed for it maintained and cultivated Nintendo’s legacy.

Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea

8.9/10

The problem with Lovecraft games is that any attempt to adapt his work is met with obstacles, like his abject racism, his often dour and naïve protagonist, and a generally dark world. Call of the Sea isn’t so much adapted as heavily inspired. Most importantly, it is vibrant, colourful, and altogether pleasurable to play.

Watch Dogs: Legion
7.9/10

Ask a certain professional league footballer and you’ll know that anyone can fight the vast and uncaring cruelty of the British Government, but it isn’t always easy, and it can sometimes be a little repetitive. Watch Dogs Legion lets anybody turn against a fictional, but not all that unbelievable London establishment that has sunk even further into the mires of nationalism, fascism, and authoritarianism.

The image of the Greek Gods is everchanging. Some might not be able to picture Hades without the slick of blue flamed hair thanks to Disney, while others might see him more as a modern depiction of Death or Satan. The Ancient Greeks didn’t have a definitive look for each of the Gods, and the interpretations varied wildly. But for however many versions of Hades, Zeus, Poseidon and the rest there might be, SuperGiant’s Hades will probably always be the pinnacle.
