Amnesia: Collection Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

With both Amnesia: The Dark Descent and A Machine for Pigs running at around six hours apiece, and Justine around an hour and a half unless you die and have to restart, the Amnesia: Collection for PS4 offers horror fans plenty of chills for its budget price of £23.99/$29.99. It’s just a shame that none of the games have been enhanced for the PS4 in any meaningful way and that there are no additional extras included to sweeten the deal. Even as straight-up ports though, if you don’t own a PC and have never played any of the Amnesia titles before, the Amnesia: Collection presents the perfect tim...

What is fear? Is it jump scares, things leaping out at you around every turn? Is it that prickling feeling on the back of your neck? Or maybe it’s something deeper. Something in the mind. Something psychological. Fear is so much more than just hulking creatures and things that go bump in the night. Fear is the unknown and the unexpected. It’s a shame it isn’t a full remake, but The Dark Descent remains one of the most frightening and atmospheric video games ever made.

This compilation brings together all three Amnesia titles into one terrifying package. Is it worth your time and sanity, or should you hide in a cupboard and wait for it to move on?

Amnesia Collection retails for $29.99 USD on both the PC and PS4. If you own Dark Descent on PC, I would suggest skipping the collection and just buying Machine if you’re curious enough. But if you’re someone who’s never tried the series (especially if you own a PS4 but don’t have a PC strong enough to handle the original game) I highly recommend picking up the compilation. Sometimes it’s worth it to go out and seek out those scares that will stay with you a long, long time.
