Anima Gate of Memories: I & II Remastered Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Anima: Gate of Memories I & II Remaster is a collection of two very low-budget action JRPGs that I really enjoyed. Anyone looking for something in the vein of Nier should definitely consider playing it. The changes in this remaster are almost entirely cosmetic, though, and probably won’t justify a double dip for anyone with the original games. The price is very low, though, and there’s a lot of content to be found. Hopefully, developer Anima Project gets enough attention to develop games on a grand scale in the future.
Anima’s remaster opens the gate again and what comes through is surprisingly captivating! Anima Project returns to its roots with Anima: Gate of Memories
Even with improved graphics and rebalancing, some areas still needed work, such as the characters' expressions.
Anima Gate of Memories: I&II Remaster is an interesting title, but repetitive combat holds it back from being anything special.
What remains is a relic of mid-2010s RPG ambition: flawed, fascinating, and occasionally beautiful in its awkwardness. Those seeking refinement will struggle, but for anyone drawn to forgotten worlds and tragic antiheroes, this remaster offers a chance to remember what Anima once dared to be.
