Tails of Iron is a beautiful and charming side-scroller with brutal combat and a grim story. Fight as the rat king Redgi and reclaim your kingdom.
Out of humble materials, Odd Bug Studios have created a rich, beautiful, and thrilling fantasy world in Tails of Iron.
I’ve reviewed a fair whack of games so far in 2021 and Tails of Iron is easily the best of the bunch. Addictively deadly difficult combat, a wonderful game world to explore and a compelling story all add up to having a very good time indeed. At the end of the game, Odd Bug Studios tease a sequel, to which I say ‘Yes please!’ as this is easily the best Rat ‘em up I’ve ever played.
Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter is a phenomenal game that new and old fans will love. It features gorgeous animation that's similar to childhood classics like Watership Down or The Secret of NIMH. The decision to have the majority of the game set in the harsh winter is a brilliant one, as its cold vibes mixed with the warm glow of fire is breathtaking. The combat is improved upon with better p...
Tails of Iron could go deeper on the story and lighter on the backtracking, but if it ever gets a sequel I hope it maintains obvious love seen in the art direction and design.
Tails of Iron, by Odd Bug Studio, is a 2-D souls-like from the perspective of a young rat king trying to rebuild his kingdom and fight off invaders. It’s also an absolute delight to play! With undeniable charm, an engaging story, fun game and a gorgeous art style, it’s a wonderful experience!
Tails of Iron tells an impressively deep story with no dialogue and keeps you entertained in the interim with witty charm and gruesome combat. Definitely worth a try if you are a fan of soulslikes.
Tails of Iron isn’t the biggest adventure in the world – while it has numerous maps to explore, they’re not particularly expansive – but it does have a lot of heart. It’s easy to warm to Redgi despite him not having a voice, which is quite an achievement in itself, and as you travel around his kingdom, fighting off bugs, frogs and other pesky creatures, you’ll come to care about his fate. It’s the...
Once upon a time, brave prince Redgi set out on a quest to save his kingdom and free his subjects. Join us for an adventure featuring rats, frogs, and one very familiar narrator.
Upon booting up Tails of Iron, you’re greeted with what seems to be a somewhat dark, but accessible fairytale about a young mouse who’s destined to be king, since his father, the current king, is getting old and wants to abdicate. Upon completing a really boring tutorial and winning the right of becoming king by defeating his own brother in battle, the little mouse’s world (as well as the player’s...
While it never totally fails to be an acceptable action RPG, most of Tails of Iron’s initial appeal doesn’t outlast its humdrum gameplay.
Simply put, in only 40 minutes, Tails of Iron became my most anticipated for the rest of the year. It’s got the potential to stand as tall as its inspirations, the potential to become an indie hallmark deserving of that same popularity that might cause fans to spiral into a frenzy simply because an unrelated third-party announces an indie press event. If you play anything next month, make it Tails...
