Azur Lane: Crosswave Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Azur Lane: Crosswave takes a popular mobile title’s world and crafts a solid story with a great cast of characters and some fun combat that doesn't stick around long enough to be enjoyed to the fullest.

Azur Lane: Crosswave has a well-written story mode that runs as deep as the ocean, but the combat that strings these story scenes together is as shallow as a kiddie pool. It's wonderful to see fan favourites interact, and the voice acting adds a lot to the already charming story mode, but it's a shame that the gameplay fails to leave as much of an impression as the narrative and art did.

Azur Lane: Crosswave does a good enough job of offering plenty of waifus and at the beginning of the game only gives enough battles for you to crave more. But once they start to be more common, their enjoyment level sinks and requires the player to start changing things up themselves to avoid boredom.

Fans of the mobile title will enjoy this, if you have a dislike of anime style games with fully voiced Japanese dialogue, you won’t get any enjoyment out of this.

Kawaii anime battleship girls. That is probably the easiest possible way to describe Azur Lane: Crosswave. This is an arena battler action-RPG featuring anime girls wearing far too little to be blasting around at high speeds on the sea. You fight other anime girls also wearing far too little, as well as massive battleships, alongside whatever other things may pop up in front of you. It’s a pretty basic premise, to be fair.

Azur Lane: Crosswave sees personified versions of warships battle it out on the open seas. Compile Heart and Felistella title provides some lighthearted enjoyment, but doesn't make any particularly noteworthy waves.
