Cassette Boy Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Overall, I really enjoyed Cassette Boy. The combination of Legend of Zelda adventuring with Fez camera rotating was an excellent combo that blended incredibly well. The game has a unique retro visual aesthetic, and gorgeous lo-fi music. Its only issues are minor. Anyone curious about Cassette Boy from the trailer should definitely make the purchase. It’s a short game, but the under $15 price is right. I can’t wait to see what the developers make next!
Cassette Boy may be doused in the green hues of Gameboy nostalgia but it certainly puts its own spin on puzzles with its modern Schrodinger system. Using the familiar elements of the Legend of Zelda and combining them with a rotating 3D camera has you questioning much more than just what you see, but also what you don’t.
An engaging mix of The Legend Of Zelda and Fez, which rearranges a number of familiar ideas into a clever action puzzler, even if its visuals are a bit too old school for its own good.
CASSETTE BOY can change how you view the world with its mechanics and puzzles, but is held back by some odd and frustrating design decisions.
