Centum isn't going to make you jump out of your seat with gratifying gameplay, nor will it provide those "aha!" moments associated with the best puzzle or point-and-click adventure games. This makes it a game that certainly won't please everyone, and that's fine. But if it does resonate with you, it will hit like a truck. It's the type of game you dream about, not because it's a blast to play or because you've always wanted something like it, but because it worms its way into your DNA, scratching an itch you didn't know you had.
Centum is a game for fans of psychological horror and mind-bending puzzles. If you enjoy a challenge that leaves you with more questions than answers, this is for you. The eerie atmosphere and complex puzzles will keep you engaged. Even if the constant confusion can sometimes make you feel lost. Recommended for those who love a mystery and don’t mind the occasional headache.
An adventure game featuring a time-loop, post-apocalyptic mutants, and a staunchly unreliable narrator, Centum is a narrative title that delights in obscurity and aims to deliver existential angst. It plays on fears of digital subservience and the concept of humanity, leaning on gore and the macabre to evoke a sense of constant dread.
If you’re a fan of more esoteric storytelling and indie point-and-clicks, I think Centum would be really up your alley. While there are slow points in the narrative and rather simplistic gameplay, the game as a whole is still positive, even if I was left with more questions than I had answers to.
While there certainly will be players that will enjoy Centum's enigmatic story and surreal writing, it just wasn't for me. That being said, I could have enjoyed this regardless if it had remained a puzzle game throughout rather than abandoning its gameplay at the midway point.
