Professional reviews from gaming critics
Earlier this year, the fantastic PlayLink party game Frantics debuted and now, we have a new mini-game collection starring a bunch of chimps from the same developers. Charge your phone and let's monkey around!
Adding to the stable of PlayLink titles comes the new game called Chimparty. At first glance this appeared to be just another silly tie in kind of game but
Developed by NapNok Games, Chimparty is one of PlayLink’s first forays into the family game market, something it pulls off with mixed success. On first impressions, its art style is very endearing, with colourful characters and nicely-themed levels being easy on the eye. The fact that you can unlock items throughout the game for you to customise your chimp with is a nice little touch, too.
Chimparty does try and tempt you back for a few more games by offering some mild progression for your chimp through collecting stars to unlock cosmetics. While dressing your avatar up as a pirate is momentarily amusing – though not as amusing as the selfies you can take to identify your character – it’s not really much of an incentive to keep playing.
Chimparty is among the latest crop of titles to launch on PS4, utilising Sony’s mobile-device-meets-console technology PlayLink, and has arrived just in time to catch younger audiences heading into school holidays. While the game is packed full of colourful arenas, zany characters, and over-the-top silliness, Chimparty ultimately fails to capture any real footing in the party game genre, especially with titles like ‘That’s You‘ and ‘Frantics‘ already on the market.
