Frantics Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Mini-game collections aren't as common as they once were but they can definitely be a barrel of fun when done right. Frantics is an animal-themed party game that you can enjoy with up to four players so let's head to the zoo and have a blast.

We’ve seen the PlayLink function launch last year alongside the games That’s You!, Hidden Agenda, and Knowledge is Power covering social, mystery, and quiz-based genres respectively for a party/group setting. This time around, Frantics, seemingly aims to fill in as the mini-game PlayLink entry full of swiping, tilting, and shaking of your mobile devices. Let’s take a look at how it fairs amongst the already launched titles, as well as if it stands out as a unique entry within the PlayLink line of games.

Ruin your friendships with a nothing but your smartphones, a bunch of wacky mini-games and one sly fox.

Frantics isn't the killer app PlayLink needs, but a charming art style, fun characters, good use of the phone-based controls, and a diverse selection of quality mini-games good make it a good party game.

Steve Harvey. Bradley Walsh. Phillip Schofield. Game show hosts are truly the most influential people of our time: they crack jokes met with a sensible chuckle, engage in light-hearted conversations with hopeful contestants that they probably hate, and console poor old Brenda from Swindon after she answers a question about Eastenders incorrectly. The Fox, host of Frantics, the latest phone-based PlayLink offering for PS4, may not join these true kings amongst men in terms of personality, but the title itself provides a fun enough time in its 15 madcap minigames.

Frantics fails to live up to its name by featuring an oddly slow pace. Beyond that it's not a fantastic party game experience, full of the same sorts of mini-games seen in past titles within the genre. Still, it works well thanks to the PlayLink functionality that allows you to use a smartphone as a controller. If you're dying for a party game for your PS4, it fits the bill, but there are better options out there.

Party games. There is always time for party games. Gather a group of your friends and pit them against each other in a digital coliseum. That’s when you find out exactly who your friends are, and that Barbara never forgave Carol for that time she said her cupcakes were dry. PlayStation are very aware of this, and that is how we ended up with so many party games from PS Link. Now a few months into its life we have the brand new title, Frantics.
