Although I came in rusty, DJMax Respect beckoned me to keep my fingers dancing and to further one-up myself. The more I did that the more fun it became, and I’m looking forward to enjoying all of the DLC to come, and potentially, the full-on resurrection of DJMax in the west.

DJMax Respect is easily a must-buy for any fan of the rhythm genre, from newbie to veteran. It may be a bit too challenging for a newcomer, but I’d definitely say not to let that stop you. Aside from a handful of “eh” songs and the seemingly frivolous Arcade mode, I’d almost go so far as to call this the perfect rhythm game for home console.

DJMax Respect has a steep learning curve, but it provides a rewarding experience with tons of content. Those willing to cut their teeth will find a rhythm game that can easily hang with the greats of the genre.

DJMax Respect is largely based on previous games, and is in effect closer to a “HD Remaster” than a wholly new game, but the audience for the franchise has been small enough previous that for most people that won’t matter. What will matter more is that you’re going to want to commit some serious time to the game. It’s not going to be forgiving on any level for players in their first couple of hours.
