Overall, Double Cross is a great meshing of different types of gameplay styles that I love. The action and the Adventure are very good for this type of platform game. It will definitely be fun for anyone who liked Mega Man or other types of adventure platformers. Double Cross launches today, January 10, 2019, and is available on Nintendo Switch for $19.99 USD and on Steam for a sale of $14.99 USD until January 16 and then returns to $19.99.
With some better combat choices and animation this could have been a revolutionary release from 13AM Games, but even without that lofty goal it's a definite safe buy for anyone wanting a great new platformer.
Double Cross is the latest release from 13AM Games, the creative minds behind Runbow. These guys know their platforming, and this time they’ve developed a sol
Developed by 13AM Games, Double Cross is that hearty 90’s Saturday morning cartoon come to life, both in its narrative and art style. Players take on the role of Zahra Sinclair, one of the top agents of the time and reality hopping agency R.I.F.T. which exists to keep balance between dimensions. R.I.F.T. upholds strict laws about what can and can’t move between which dimensions in an effort to keep the peace and avoid catastrophe by bringing advanced technology to worlds that have not yet learned or understood the ability to create these portals for themselves.
13AM Games had great success with their multiplayer hit Runbow and now, they've made a single player 2D platforming adventure.
Double Cross is a pretty good platformer with an interesting story and stage mechanics, but the game itself feels a tad too easy and short.
Swing time.
13AM Games’ last title, Runbow, found success on Wii U with its unique style and fast-paced platforming. Its new game, Double Cross, moves away from the multiplayer structure, instead opting for a story focused, single-player action platformer in the style of the Mega Man series.
Sadly, this is not that game, despite having laid the groundwork for some elements that I would like to see fleshed out in other games. Double Cross is fairly superfluous, sci-fi platformer that's just adequate enough to get by, and that's exactly what makes it so frustrating when you know the talented and passionate team it comes from.
The Nintendo Switch isn’t exactly hurting for 2D platformers right now. Even so, Double Cross, developed by Canadian studio 13AM Games, adds just enough personality with its inter-dimensional setting and colourful cast of characters to make it stand out. It doesn’t quite reach its full potential, and there are certainly avenues for improvement. That said, Double Cross is still a lot of fun.
