Gangs of Sherwood is a fun sleeper title that features great combat and characters. I enjoyed playing through each hero and seeing their unique abilities at play. With great level design, plenty of secrets, and replay value, especially when playing with friends, Gangs of Sherwood may be the co-op title you're looking for this holiday season.

It’s unambitious, sometimes goofy fun that can be instantly picked up and enjoyed. If you’re not looking for the next milestone in coop gaming, dive into this journey in a reimagined universe and enjoy this group of rebels with a fresh set of eyes.

A nice game with an interesting world and story that could really use some quality-of-life updates and a price reduction.

Gangs of Sherwood delivers an engaging gameplay experience that’s only held back by its incoherent story and lackluster characters.

Gangs of Sherwood is exactly what it needs to be: fun for everyone playing it. It's definitely a game you'll want to play with friends for the best possible experience though, so do keep that in mind if you're more of a single player kind of person. I've been having a blast with it though, and if I can convince some friends to join me, I'd imagine I'll be playing it for a fair bit of time to come.

Gangs of Sherwood takes the classic characters of the Robin Hood tale and places them in a co-op character action game where you take the fight to the Sheriff of Nottingham, a man overflowing with the technological power of the Lionheart, a mystical object of power.

Gangs of Sherwood is an interesting game with great visuals, but feels a bit too repetitive and hard to play on Steam Deck.

Robin and the gang's co-op outing is all too frivolous and fleeting.

Pick up Gangs of Sherwood and you might get a few hours of entertainment out of it, especially if you play it with friends. Ultimately, though, this is a mediocre action game with a litany of issues ranging from unbalanced characters to sub-par presentation. For that reason it’s difficult to recommend, even if you’re intrigued by its visually fresh take on the legend of Robin Hood. Though to be honest, this doesn’t feel like a Robin Hood game at all. There’s little stealing from the rich to give to the poor here. And aside from Friar Tuck, his band of merry men doesn’t really seem all that merry.

With a shiny presentation and swashbuckling charm, Gangs of Sherwood portends to be more than your average co-op title. Unfortunately, it turns the legendary outlaw's tale into even less than a placeholder beat 'em up.

The voice acting is fine, let down by god awful writing.  Quip after quip after quip and none of them land.  It’s never funny, but I could feel the talent of the people behind it doing their best to make it so.  I didn’t run into any real bugs, because again it feels like a well-made and polished product.  It’s just one let down by some infuriating design choices that sabotage something that had the potential to be at least an OK co-op game. There are some wonderfully talented devs and voice actors that worked on this title. I hope to see more from them with a better wrapping around it all in the future.

Gangs of Sherwood left me in a state of disbelief after seeing how easily I could break certain bosses' programming. The challenge falls far short of what you'd expect from a modern action title too, and it isn't helped by the game's voice acting, level design or balance issues. A forgettable take on a famous legend.
