As long as you’re aware that Gas Guzzlers Extreme is a single-player only experience, chances are you’ll get a hell of a lot of enjoyment out of it. It’s nice that you can chart your own course through the game’s career, focusing on racing or combat as you see fit. And there are plenty of vehicles to unlock, purchase and upgrade to your heart’s content. The zombie horde modes are just the icing on the cake, offering something a little bit different when trading paint has lost its appeal. Though it’ll be a while before that happens.
Unfortunately when the game makes you simply drive the game loses most of it’s magic, and there is a game mode specific to this. Gas Guzzlers strips away the use of weapons and has drivers race for first place. This isn’t enjoyable because the action of the game grinds to a halt. While most of these races can be avoided by simply not selecting them it still leaves for potential bad experiences.
If you want a fun racing game with some classic car combat, look no further! Gas Guzzlers Extreme is a new game from Iceberg Interactive that’s sure to scratch your itch. Cars and upgrades to unlock, several different game modes, and a whole lot of destruction await.
Gas Guzzlers is more of a junker than a Ferrari, and it shows in its technical underperformance and uninspired track designs. If you really have nothing else to play, the game packs a couple cool features that will occupy you for a few hours — if you don’t get carsick before then.
Gas Guzzlers Extreme is still worth the plunge if you’re at all intrigued by a return to its simple diet of racing carnage however. The mechanics are solid, it looks pretty, and much like a recently resurging obsession with Counter Strike: GO, I found myself dipping in and out of the singleplayer offering as a diversion between lengthier games.
