Gear.Club Unlimited Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Nintendo Switch doesn’t allow for too many racing games to shine with the well-regarded Mario Kart 8 Deluxe hogging the spotlight. But Gear.Club Unlimited is stealing the limelight this holiday season with its racing sim action, RPG-lite upgrade system and beautifully rendered licensed cars. Although it’s not a true racing sim, this is still the best racing game available on the Nintendo Switch to date. Gear.Club Unlimited is available for $49.99 exclusively at GameStop and digitally ...
The Nintendo Switch may be selling like plastic hotcakes, but the system’s library still has its share of unfortunate gaps. Hungry for a Switch racing game without futuristic hover cars or homing turtle shells? Until now, you’ve been out of luck. Enter Gear.Club Unlimited.
In the end then, Gear.Club Unlimited is a fun but flawed racer. If you put in the effort to get to grips with its unique handling model you’ll find a game that you can really sink your teeth into, and it’ll reward you with plenty of licensed cars and a ton of events to complete. Go in expecting something that handles like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, however, and you’ll be very disappointed. In any case, Gear.Club Unlimited is the first, and therefore the only, game of its type currently available on Switch, and while it may not fulfil all of its potential there’s still a lot of fun to be...
Hugging dangerous curves and gunning it to grab first place as I cross the finish line is enough to sustain me in most racing games, but that's not the strong point of Gear Club Unlimited. This title is neither a simulation nor pure arcade game; while you can feel different cars' upgrades and degrees of under- or oversteer, controlling them lacks subtlety, leading to some wild steering. In the absence of compelling racing, however, the overall structure provides an oddly compelling lure.
Gear.Club Unlimited is not a very good game. It's not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but not even it's impressive car visuals can save it from being just an incredibly average racing game. It honestly feels like there was no love put into this game. At $49.99 I simply cannot recommend this game at the current price tag. The title still feels like a free-to-play game you would find on the Apple App Store more than a fully fledged game, and frankly, that's all it's worth to me.
If you are the ONLY realistic racing game on the Switch, does that by default make you the best?
