2016 sees a double dose of God Eater hit North America and Europe. It's a good time to get either introduced to and reacquainted with the series.

While it can't escape looking like a 5-year old game, this enhanced remake is one hell of a package at a low price.

Perhaps it took a move to the home consoles and a years-delayed retouch, but God Eater Resurrection shines as a less demanding, flashier alternative to the likes of Monster Hunter. It’ll never ask for the same depth of dedication, but it doesn’t try to, and in (not) doing so, manages to prove that being the “diet” version of something isn’t always a bad thing.

The sound in Resurrection is one of its best qualities. Though the sound effects are crisp and fitting for each situation, it’s the voice acting that really steals the show. Each character is given life by their spirited and fitting voices. Every character’s minor quirks and ticks are highlighted by the impressive English dubbing.

It isn’t a JRPG without an overcompensating weapon and God Eater Resurrection does not fail to impress. God Eater has gained popularity after it’s initial release on the PSP which eventually expanded into the God Eater series, an anime adaption that was released in 2015, and now with the latest installment on the PlayStation 4, God Eater Resurrection. While some may worry about jumping into the game without having first played the others, you won’t have to worry as Resurrection is an updated version of God Eater Burst with enhanced graphics, a reworked camera and online play with up to 4 players.

God Eater Resurrection may not be a must-have game, but seeing that its genre isn’t over-saturated allows it to stand firmly on its own. Whether you’re returning from the PSP game or are just looking for a new Monster Hunter-esque fix, this game will definitely scratch the hunting itch for you.
