Grand Slam Tennis is as slick and professional a tennis game as you could hope for, and though it lacks something of Top Spin's passion for the sport, the inclusion of Wimbledon and the wider roster really do make a difference. There's room for improvement – chiefly in the variety of game modes, the selection of commentary snippets and the pace of the career mode - but for now, Grand Slam Tennis 2 is the best game of tennis that video games have to offer.

When EA first launched the Grand Slam Tennis series it was a Wii exclusive as it took advantage of the system’s motion controls. The sequel, aptly titled Grand Slam Tennis 2, lands on all consoles with a more realistic presentation and approach to the sport. Having already reviewed the PS3 version, I took the Xbox 360 version for a spin, and while the game is technically sound it comes up a bit short of its potential due to a lack of variety.
Grand Slam Tennis 2 has the daunting task of following up last year’s brace of solid tennis titles. Both Virtua Tennis 4 and Top Spin 4 hold a racquet-like grip on the two opposing formats of the tennis genre: Virtua Tennis with its slick arcade action and Top Spin with its challenging simulation focus. It’s unsurprising, then, that Grand Slam Tennis 2 should feel like a blend between the two, conjuring up a game of bat and ball that’s much more realistic than Virtua Tennis but not quite as demanding as Top Spin.
