I primarily associate IllFonic with their most recent title, Killer Klowns from Outer Space. That game, also based on a classic film, won me over with its grotesque aesthetic and candy-colored visuals. It wasn’t perfect, but I had a good time with it. Halloween: The Game feels different. There is none of that grotesque humor here; the game is darker, more atmospheric – and, unfortunately, technically shoddy.
IllFonic deserves props for trying to do things differently but the focus on interacting with NPCs undermines what should be a frantic time with other players.
IllFonic’s effort to put you in the shoes of Michael Myers is admirable, but does it have what it takes to keep you coming back for more?
