If Found... is a visually impressive and deeply personal experience that centers on emotional resonance above all else
Despite being a mere two-hour experience, If Found... has a lot of depth by portraying real-life issues that anyone can draw comparisons to within their own life, even if it may not be a direct contrast. While the main preface of what begins the story feels out of place, If Found... features some of the most realistic, human characters, that I’ve experienced in recent memory. Dreamfeel is an Irish studio that identifies itself as a developer that "centers queer experiences," and If Found... is a great creation of what they want to represent.
A mesmerising commentary on the nature of relationships.
Being a visual novel, If Found… won’t be for everyone, but those willing to give it a try will find a beautiful and endearing story of self-acceptance. The gorgeous hand-drawn art and the story coming directly from a diary really give the impression of an insight to someone’s life, and the gameplay idea of actually erasing history and identity creates an intensely emotional experience.
Annapurna Interactive loves to publish little indie darlings of all shapes and sizes. It’s one of the reasons I have so much admiration for them. With titles like Telling Lies, Gorogoa, Outer Wilds, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Ashen, there’s something for everyone in their catalog as no two games are alike.
