Professional reviews from gaming critics

Impaler is a wonderful roguelike boomer-shooter that not only shines in gameplay, but is perfect to play on the Steam Deck.

This is a great little game and a great little experience for a very small price tag. It will keep you entertained for a few hours at most, but it was designed to be replayed a few times for some quick fun. Just don’t go in there expecting hours upon hours of content. It’s a short, fun romp that would do great in a larger, more content-heavy future release. So, hopefully that eventually happens.

Impaler is a 90s-inspired minimalist arena shooter gives you the magical powers to summon spikes that slay monsters, raise barriers, and get you to higher ground.

Though there isn't much there, what Impaler provides is rocking fun. With solid rogue-like gameplay, Impaler is so easy to pick up and play. Apptivus shows you how to make a big fun factor with little effort. Calling it minimalist would be an overstatement, so I don't consider Impaler a full game. But it sure is fun spawning deadly stalagmites everywhere.

The return of old-school shooters continues to march on with Apptivus’ rogue-like Impaler. Calling itself a “minimalist arena shooter”, the game is easy to pick up and get right into the madness of waves of creatures. While that excitement doesn’t last very long, for only USD $2.99, this experience is a fun little respite from other titles.
