As I was sweating away to Lady Gaga’s “Applause” in the middle of my living room, I came to terms with a few brutal honest truths about myself. Ubisoft creates a game that embodies everything about pop music in one cohesive package.
Ubisoft’s colossal Just Dance series has become a common name among party gamers and rhythm fans. The gameplay essentially boils down to you mirroring a brightly coloured avatar in order to pull shapes to popular songs across a variety of genres. Compatible with up to four players, the franchise scores you by tracking your right hand and awarding you a star rating. It’s a compelling concept – and one that continues to boogie to the beat of our drum in this PlayStation 4 iteration.
Autodance introduces video recording to the series. Using the GamePad, you can record 30 seconds of yourself dancing. The game will automatically choose parts of the clip into one goofy clip that looks absolutely ridiculous. You can then share this video to Just Dance TV or Twitter. There is also a pretty good system where you can look at other people’s videos, rank them and even give them a tag. It’s not perfect but it’s good that it’s there.
