Witty banter, evocative storytelling, whimsical art, and spot-on voice acting makes Lil’ Guardsman a game not to be missed. Is it too soon to give it my Game of the Year?
A deduction adventure with a great sense of humor, Lil Guardsman takes the addictive and absorbing gameplay style of titles like Papers Please and plants it into a cute fantasy setting.Read More
Lil' Guardsman is a fantastic game that perfectly captures the feel of Papers, Please while standing out as its own unique creation thanks to clever gameplay tweaks such as a main focus on deduction, the use of time travel and a limited amount of actions and resources to manage. On top of all that, it has a stellar cast of characters with perfectly humorous writing accompanying them, all backed up with eye-catching visuals. Fans of Papers, Please will love it, and so will everyone else, so don't turn down this job opportunity as it leads to something special.
Unique, funny and so entertaining, Lil' Guardsman has all the traits I want from games in my old age. Lil' Guardsman is like nothing else on the market, it's beautiful and so well written that its world will swallow you whole. It's not often you get to play a game that makes you smile from start to finish but Lil' Guardsman stole a Lil' piece of my heart. I cannot recommend it enough.
It’s hard to find much to fault Lil’ Guardsman with. It’s clear a lot of care and heart went into the title, and for those with whom the humor resonates, this is a fantasy tale worth playing through and laughing over. I immensely enjoyed my time with the game and found the end of Lil’s journey highly satisfying. Lil’ Guardsman is one duty I wouldn’t mind repeating, even if putting such lofty decisions in the hands of a twelve-year-old doesn’t seem like the most rational of choices!
Lil’ Guardsman caught my attention from the moment I first saw it announced. Its adorable art still and quirky humor looked right up my alley. Even though I was initially concerned that it might be a touch too casual, I was still eager to check it out. Now after having played it (more than once), I can say wholeheartedly that it surpassed my expectations in just about every way.
It added a ton to the replayability for me, prompting a second playthrough immediately after I finished my first. Bug-wise I only ran into one major one, which was a game crash the first three times I tried to play. After a system restart everything worked fine though, so it may have been on my Series X’s end.
It's not like there's a particularly memorable overall narrative here, and it would have helped Lil' Guardsman to feel as mesmerising on a broader scale as it does when you're just... well, being in it. That said, this is an awful lot of charm for the amount of money it costs, so whether you're on Switch, PC, PlayStation or Xbox, give Lil' Guardsman or {Papers, Please} a try. Play {Papers, Please}. Please.
Lil Guardsman's mix of border control and adventure is a whole heap of fun, with genuine comedic moments combined with great acting. There are a few issues with the story, with the occasional inconsistency or predictable moment, but all in all this is a great addition to the genre.
Lil’ Guardsman is so much fun to play. Players will be laughing out loud from the very beginning and will enjoy the fun references and silly jokes throughout. And those that like to play games multiple times will be able to see all of the different options and outcomes. Sure, this is a pretty easy game, but for something that’s mostly about the story and the characters, we didn’t find this too disappointing. If you’re looking for a relaxing, funny time, Lil’ Guardsman is well worth picking up.
Parchment, please.Imagine if every time you wanted to visit the Scumm Bar on Mêlée Island you had to pass [...]
Lil’ Guardsman is a silly, high-fantasy take on Papers, Please that mixes deductive gameplay with goblins and wizards – what more could you want? Well, a tighter story with more consistent quality would have been great, but the end result is still very much worth playing for comedy fans.
Lil is taking over the job of Guardsman of the Sprawl and your decisions can have dire consequences in this hilarious indie funfest.
Lil' Guardsman is a standout indie game that combines humor, strategy, and point-and-click elements, presenting a compelling story of a girl guarding her town.
