Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series - Episode 2: Under Pressure

By focusing heavily on developing Rocket and presenting us plenty of great character moments Under Pressure makes up for its slower story pace with ease and offers an intriguing storyline that we can’t wait to continue.

All in all, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series – Episode 2: Under Pressure does little, if anything, to disappoint. Some may feel that it ends rather abruptly, but it leaves you wanting more, which can only be a good thing. We’re now two episodes in, and it’s exciting to speculate as to where the story might go. If you’re a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and yet still on the fence with regards to the Telltale series, I’d consider getting down and making a purchase, pronto.

Under Pressure transitions us off of the high-tempo radio hit that was the season opener and into a more relaxed slow jam punctuated with some meaty action riffs. The slower drip of meaningful events meant I didn’t come off of it with the same level of feelgood euphoria I had after finishing Tangled Up in Blue, but Telltale is still doing an excellent job adapting this eccentric hero team to its tried-and-true format - particularly when the focus is on developing the characters and the relationships between them.

Conflict is central to good storytelling, and that’s a message Telltale seems to have taken to heart for the second episode of its Guardians of the Galaxy interactive adventure. Jumping in mid-word from the conclusion of the first game, Episode 2 wastes no time in setting up interpersonal tension between its cast members, and follows through with those clashes to fuel a couple hours of narrative. Under Pressure sometimes feels like there’s almost too much bickering, but at least your choices have emotional weight.

The TellTale engine still needs work, though if you’ve read any of my previous TellTale reviews, this isn’t news. This episode performed rather well compared to the previous one, outside of some audio balancing issues that made the music too quiet beside voices and sound effects.
